Approved lists under the EPBC Act and nominating something for listing

The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) protects our nationally significant animals, plants, habitats and places. We have a range of listings to show what these are. You can also nominate a native species, ecological community or threatening process for listing.

Nominating something to the EPBC Act lists

Native species, ecological community or threatening process

Anyone can nominate a native species, ecological community or threatening process for listing under any of the categories specified in the EPBC Act.

National heritage places

Anyone can nominate a place for inclusion in either:

Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna And Flora (CITES)

There is no public nomination process for species to be listed as a CITES specimen.

Migratory species

There's no public nomination process for an animal to be listed as a migratory species because these lists are maintained under international agreements, including:

Wetlands

There's no public nomination process for wetlands to be listed under the Ramsar Convention on wetlands.

World heritage places

There's no public nomination process for a place to be added to the World Heritage List.
