The situation
A pastoral enterprise plans to grade an existing internal track to improve safety and reduce erosion. The work will stay within the current track area.
There is no remnant vegetation nearby, although some regrowth is present along the edges. The track has been maintained from time to time over the past 15 years.
Proposed activity
The pastoral enterprise will:
- regrade the track surface to improve access and reduce erosion
- keep all work within the existing track area
- avoid widening or extending the track
- manage minor regrowth only where it has been cleared before
- maintain current drainage to avoid changing water flows.
Key considerations
- This is maintenance of an existing track, not new construction or expansion.
- No remnant vegetation or threatened ecological communities are present in or near the track.
- Regrowth may be managed where it was previously cleared, in line with state rules.
- The work does not involve new clearing or increase disturbance beyond the existing track.
- The activity maintains current drainage and aims to reduce erosion.
- The work should not widen the track or extend beyond the existing area.
- The work should not change water flows in a way that increases erosion or runoff.
- The work should avoid impacts on nearby threatened species or ecological communities.
- No Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) are present in or downstream of the work area.
Outcome
No EPBC Act self-assessment or referral is required.
The work stays within a long-established track, does not involve new clearing, and is not expected to impact MNES.
