The National Environmental Protection Agency attended the 29th Heads of EPA (HEPA) meeting in Launceston this week, the first attended by our new agency.
National EPA Chief Executive Officer John Bradley PSM said the opportunity to meet with other environmental regulators was valuable.
“It has been great to connect with EPAs from across Australia and New Zealand during our first month of operation. The meeting gave me the chance to listen, learn and build relationships that will strengthen our collaboration. The meeting discussed leading regulatory practice and collaboration occurring across Australia and New Zealand environmental regulators,” Mr Bradley said.
HEPA meets three times each year to coordinate action on environmental issues.
Mr Bradley said there was strong alignment between the National EPA's priorities and HEPA's vision for environmental protection. "The National EPA is focused on delivering better environmental outcomes, making timely and evidence-based decisions, improving regulatory consistency and providing clearer pathways for industry, communities and other stakeholders."
