The Minister for the Environment and Water Murray Watt has issued a Statement of Expectations to the National Environmental Protection Agency (National EPA).

The statement is a legislative requirement and outlines the Minister’s expectations for the National EPA. It guides how we operate as a modern, best-practice regulator.

It includes expectations about:

  • the role of the agency
  • how the agency will do its work
  • how the agency will use its powers to protect the environment and streamline decision making.

The statement highlights our important role in protecting and restoring Australia’s environment.

Together the Statement of Expectations and the National EPA’s responding Statement of Intent will help shape our work.
