Helping landholders comply with the EPBC Act

A new webinar available to watch online is helping farmers, landholders and agricultural businesses understand and comply with the requirements of the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

During the webinar, held live on 28 August, the team from the National EPA gave a presentation and answered questions about the EPBC Act and how it applies to common agricultural activities.

Topics included:

• examples of common farm activities (such as fencing, weed control and maintaining firebreaks) that do not need approval 
• key considerations for meeting obligations under the EPBC Act (including a decision flow chart)
• how to do a self-assessment, including the use of a supporting  template 
• when you should consider referring clearing and other actions under the EPBC Act to the National EPA 
• the National EPA’s approach to compliance and enforcement.  

The guide and webinar are part of our ongoing work to help landholders understand national environmental requirements and make informed decisions about activities on their properties. The guide forms part of a broader suite of support materials, including online resources, practical examples, direct engagement opportunities and dedicated support channels.
