About this report
This report summarises knowledge about the southern bent-wing bat. It uses information about their ecology and behaviour to assess their risk of colliding with wind turbines. It also outlines uncertainties that remain about the species.
This report will help proponents design wind farms that avoid and minimise potential impacts to bats. It will lead to quicker, better-informed assessment decisions.
We are building on the results of this project by undertaking projects under the Renewables Environmental Research Initiative (RERI). This includes more research into the southern bent-wing bat. It will look at the relationship between their flight activities and wind speed.
This report provides scientific information. It does not represent official regulatory guidance or advice.
