About the publication

We need a National Action List (NAL) for offshore carbon dioxide sequestration to meet our obligations under the 1996 Protocol to the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter, 1972.

A National Action List:

  • is a screening tool to assess suitability for the disposal of CO2 into sub-seabed geological formations
  • outlines acceptable incidental associated substances and upper limit thresholds
  • supports the assessment of potential effects on the marine environment and human health.

Before applying for a permit, read the interim NAL and the offshore carbon capture and sequestration page.
