Wildlife trade management plans

To commercially export Australian native animal and plant specimens and CITES-listed specimens, the specimens must come from an approved program. Approved programs have been assessed by us and found to meet requirements in national environmental law. This helps ensure that commercial export of native species is sustainable.

One type of approved program is a wildlife trade management plan.

Wildlife trade management plans generally cover large-scale programs.

Apply for a wildlife trade management plan

Submit application forms and proposal documents in both word and PDF format.

We publish all wildlife trade management plans for public comment for at least 20 business days.

Decisions on complete applications generally take 6 to 12 months. We may ask you for extra information that may delay a decision.

If approved, approval is for a maximum of 5 years.

Exporters

Exporters sourcing specimens from an approved program must also have export permit.
