About the guide
The Product Emissions Standards Act 2017 (PES Act) sets emissions standards for certain products imported into or supplied in Australia.
The product emissions standards set limits on emissions from new products that are:
- non-road spark-ignition engines with maximum engine power at or below 19 kilowatts
- non-road spark-ignition engines used to propel marine vessels.
The assembly of imported engines into products are not considered domestic manufacture.
The PES Act outlines when exemptions may allow products that do not meet the Australian standards. Exemptions are only granted for specific business needs or cases where certified product will not work.
When we grant an exemption, we will provide a unique identifying number. Provide this number when you import the products.
